Messy games and more messy games? Heres the good news! NTU English Christian Fellowship offers more than just fun, games and sun! We have lined up a series of workshops which will help us further our walk with the Lord. Heres a sneak preview:

Kiasu Vs Excellence

"Die la, tomolo first day of school must quickly request for consultation with Professor already if not we sure lose out to the rest one..."

Really? In this society which is results-oriented, even students find themselves being flung onto the path of the Rat-race. How do we know the difference between being Kiasu and being excellent for God? On one hand we as students yearn to do well in examinations, but how do we know if we are bordering "kiasu-ism" and being overly competitive? What does the bible mean when it commands us to have a "spirit of excellence"?

Am I a faliure for sepllnig this worngly?

"Alamak, you sure the blogger from NTU anot? Cannot even spell the title of the workshop properly leh..."

Well, I believe you still get the message despite the failure (ahem, intended failure) in getting the spelling right? So am I considered "successful" in my attempt to get the message across? In this workshop, campers will be exploring what constitutes sucess and what constitutes failure. Campers will look at "success" and "failure" from various perspectives, such as the perspective of a University student, from society and also from a biblical standpoint.

Christian Fellowship FOC 08!!!

Hello everyone ! I believe that everyone who attended FOC last year thoroughly enjoyed the fun, games, fellowship with one another as well as the preaching of the Word.

As we launch into a new year, apart from just having good memories from the past, we have something even more exciting to look forward to! CF FOC 08 is opening up application for various positions! Before that let me do a quick introduction. My name is Edmund from Communication Studies Year 1 and I will be the Chair for Freshman Orientation Camp 08 for Christian fellowship. We are opening up various positions for grabs, and they are :

1) Vice Chair
2) Publicity
3) Programmers (there are 2 spaces available for this)
4) Logistics
5) Treasurer

There will be interviews conducted by myself, Tien Li and Shawn (fear not for we are very friendly).

The interview will be conducted on Monday(21st Jan 08) and Wednesday (23rd Jan 08).

The available timing for the interview will be from 10.30 am to 2pm for the Monday slot, and 12.30pm to 3pm for the Wednesday slot.

So if you are feeling the nudge to serve in the committee, do not hesitate to contact your CG leaders now for the registration, and do indictate the timing and the day you are able to come for the interview.

Q: What will we be talking about at camp? Are we just gonna sit there and listen to some uh, boring sermon?

A: Not at this camp, no you won't! 'Cause besides our theme talks (which, btw, won't be mere 'I-talk-you-listen' sessions), we'll be having four workshops over Day 2 and 3 of camp. Here are the blurbs for your mulling purposes (you get to go for one per day only, so choose wisely! :)

Just being friends has taken on a whole new meaning. What is the purpose of dating? Is it for the thrill, or is there something more to it? How do I even know if he or she is the One?

How should I treat my other half? Is the concept of ‘No Apologies’ outdated? How far should we go?

Jesus and Coffee: Do they mix?

My life is a testimony, others can see Jesus through my actions what!

Is it even possible to spread the Gospel through my daily conversations? Or am I just being irritating to the listener? How do I tell my friends about Jesus without being a weirdo? I want to be a Jesus-freak, not a Freak.

Does Dean love me?

“Isn’t being on the Dean’s list a good thing? The Bible says that everything I do is for God’s glory, so shouldn’t I do really well to make God proud? If I do badly, isn’t wouldn’t that be a bad testimony?”

“So what if I fail one or two modules? Ta-bao lah! Cutting classes is no big deal – I mean, I can study on my own. I’m here to just to get a basic degree and to network anyway.”

The Great Divide: Sacred vs Secular

I know I am a child of God. But how do I know what is my calling? Do I even have one?

Is it necessary to be involved in a Christian ministry? People are still people; I can minister to them wherever and whenever. If I choose not to serve, am I less holy or righteous than the person who is heavily involved in church?

About English Christian Fellowship FOC

The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Christian Fellowship is a group of Christian students in NTU who seek to encourage one another to live lives that are worthy of Jesus Christ, and to share Christ with others on campus. In line with the vision of our umbrella organisation, the Fellowship of Evangelical Students (FES), we aim to make and build disciples of Christ who will be effective salt and light of the world on campus and in society.

Our fellowship has been organising annual Freshmen Orientation Camps (FOC) for new students and this year is no exception. The main thrust of this year's FOC is to enable freshmen to take time out to wait upon God, and seek His guidance and direction, as they enter into a new phase of their lives.

We welcome any NTU freshman or student, who is interested to know about Christianity and/or Christian Fellowship, and hope that through attending this camp, you will also be able to learn more...
